I almost had the chance to work with Mancini when I was in grad school, but he died before the gig. We got Marvin Hamlisch instead, who was kind of a dick, but only to those musicians who weren’t prepared. It’s a long story. But I have always regretted not getting to work with Mancini.

One thing that pushed me back in a Mancini-listening mood lately was watching the first few seasons of Columbo - he composed for a number of episodes.
